Desirée graduated in 2002 from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco with a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Somatic Psychology. Somatic therapy explores ones experience of their body along with utilizing traditional psychotheraputic approaches.

Graduate School Traineeship
During her early training to become a psychotherapist Desirée was interested in studying ways to approach her work holistically. She completed a certificate program in Integrative Medicine Education at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. This program incorporated a whole-person approach and provided her with an opportunity to work collaboratively with a team of conventional and integrative medical providers. She utilized various psychotherapeutic techniques in her work, including Guided Imagery and Meditation while working in a hospital setting and an outpatient Cancer Center in Marin County.
Post-Graduate Clinical Internship
Desirée participated in a post-degree intensive training program at the Women's Therapy Center in El Cerrito, California. This internship program provided specialized training in Psychodynamic and Relational Theory. The curriculum applied principles of social justice and emphasized the importance of practicing psychotherapy within a socio-cultural context.
